The above photos show our great-great grandparents on our mother's side of the family. Our great-great grandfather was born on April 27, 1836 and was named Leander C. Smith. Our great-great grandmother was named Fanny George. Her date of birth is unknown. The exact date of marriage is also unknown. They had the following children:

Paul Smith (son of Ulysses Sidney Grant Smith) tells the story that when Leander Smith returned home from the civil war with a large beard, his son Grant did not recognize him and ran and hid underneath the table.
