Two of my best friends and almost constant companions are my two chihuahuas Ricky and Lucy. Ricky was born on September 7, 1998 and became part of the family on November 15, 1998. Lucy was born on April 17, 1998 and became part of the family on July 21, 1998.

One of my most memorable experiences with Ricky as a pup occurred while I was living in an apartment in Ridgeland, Mississippi. I had just gotten him and was taking him and Lucy for a late evening walk around the apartments. Lucy jumped up onto the sidewalk and Ricky decided that he would give it a try. He got a running go, but was so small that he just plowed head first into the sidewalk. Despite my attempts to comfort him, he cried so loud that I thought he would wake up all the people in the surrounding buildings.

The most wonderful thing about having Ricky and Lucy (and her pups) is their companionship and devotion. Most people who have opened their heart to a dog would agree that they have a special love that truly makes our lives more tolerable in a complex world where it is so easy for people to forget the importance of caring about one another.
